The Economist magazine recently noted that health care is becoming a “consumer product.” Radiology is currently at the helm of many emerging healthcare innovations, leading the pack in making many of its disruptive advancements readily available to patients. The healthcare space is already witnessing AI and ML augmenting radiological workflows using advanced detection methods. AI can quickly spot a major stroke, route the scan to the top of a radiologist’s imaging pile, allow quicker diagnosis, and enable timely emergency treatment. Soon, AI and ML will use deep-learning algorithms to mine data for new disease markers.
Concurrently, the improvements in conventional imaging devices are empowering healthcare providers at an unprecedented level. One example is photon counting detector (PCD) technology, which is considered the next-generation computed tomography (CT) technology. PCD can create multiple sets of CT data with higher precision visualization and more refined segmentation than radiologists are used to seeing in standard CT scan images. Similarly, Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) PET scans are poised to become the new standard of care for diagnosing prostate cancer and detecting metastases with its significantly higher detection rates.
This edition of Healthcare Tech Outlook presents some of the most promising medical imaging solution providers. The issue features thought leadership articles from Joseph Knarich, Director of Safety, Security, and Emergency Management, Bergen New Bridge Medical Center; Niklas Best, Director, Head of Digital Products EMEA at Fresenius Medical Care; Timothy Rose, Vice President, Product Management, radiology at GE Healthcare. The edition also showcases innovative solutions from companies, including SpinTech MRI, which focuses on MRI technology and transforms advanced imaging techniques into practical clinical applications.
