The Strategic Excellence in Medical Imaging Leadership

Efrain Camargo

Efrain Camargo is an established medical imaging expert with a proven track record of over two decades in the healthcare industry. Over the years, he has handled numerous key roles for various leading organizations across the country. Currently, he is the associate director of medical imaging at Banner Health.

Camargo’s journey into the healthcare sector began at Pima Medical Institute, where he completed an Associate and Bachelor of Science degrees in radiologic technology. As his career progressed, the radiographer acquired strong skills across various fields, including healthcare management, basic life support, computed tomography and technologies like electronic medical record and Cerner.

After completing his degree, Camargo joined Dignity Health, one of the largest non-profit hospital systems in the country, as a CT technologist. He then quickly established himself as a leader in radiology sciences. Over the next decade, he advanced to a team lead position before ultimately taking on the role of radiology supervisor. In this capacity, he oversaw daily workflows, trained incoming technologists and served as a super-user for Cerner EMR, an enterprise-wide electronic medical records system that has transformed modern healthcare operations.

He also served as an adjunct professor at Gateway Community College for five years. His expertise and leadership acumen led him to Phoenix Children’s Hospital, assuming the role of diagnostic imaging manager. He was instrumental in the hospital’s pediatric imaging division, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing workflows and implementing cutting-edge imaging solutions and strategies to elevate patient care. The capability to balance both technical and administrative aspects proved to be a critical contributor to his career.

Camargo was then appointed as the market director of radiology at Abrazo Health, overseeing radiology operations across multiple facilities. This tenure refined his ability to integrate picture archiving and communication systems and other advancing imaging technologies to drive efficiency and clinical excellence. His leadership in fiscal management and personnel oversight helped position the company for sustainable growth.

Following the success at Abrazo Health, Camargo went beyond direct healthcare operations by joining Philips, a leader in health technology, as a customer success manager. In this capacity, his focus was on supporting healthcare providers in streamlining their radiology solutions. By focusing on regulatory standards, staffing services and administrative processes, he closed the gap between technology providers and frontline medical professionals by helping clients achieve seamless adoption of innovative imaging solutions.

Today, as the associate director of medical imaging at Banner Health, Camargo continues to drive advancements in imaging efficiency, patient outcomes and operational excellence by leading a large team of professionals.

Camargo’s professional journey mirrors the qualities of adaptability and leadership. As the industry evolves, professionals like him will continue defining the new chapters of radiologic brilliance.
